Leah Marie Mason Addresses Mental Health in New Single “Black Sheep”

Leah Marie Mason releases her poignant new single “Black Sheep,” a personal ballad that delves into mental health and self-discovery.

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Leah Marie Mason has unveiled her latest single, “Black Sheep,” along with its lyric video. The song, co-written by Mason, Fraser Churchill, and Jason Reeves, comes at the onset of Suicide Prevention Month.

Mason shares, “‘This song was born from my own experiences in high school and college. It’s about those vulnerable times, the challenges I faced, and how I grew. It’s the song I needed back in high school, so if it can help even one person, it’s worth it. It came straight from my heart and I knew it needed to be out there, not just for me.”

“Black Sheep” offers an unfiltered glimpse into Mason’s journey for acceptance, featuring deeply emotional lyrics and evocative melodies. It explores her navigation through various social circles, eventually leading her to what she describes as the “island of misfits,” while still dealing with feelings of being an outsider. The song not only resonates with shared experiences of isolation but also emphasizes the importance of mental health care.

Following her debut EP, Honeydew & Hennessy, released in April, Mason’s music continues to mature. Her sound, a blend of Country, Pop, and Folk, mirrors her own personal growth.

Since her move to Nashville in 2019, Mason has gained significant momentum. She boasts tens of millions of views on TikTok and over 27 million streams across various platforms. For more information, visit her website at and follow her on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
